The application window is open for a four-week course at Autry Technology Center, teaching the fundamentals of airplane repair and guaranteeing employment upon course completion, according to a press release from Autry Tech.
The seven-week class, airframe structures technology, is offered by Autry Tech in partnership with Enid-based Aircraft Structures International Corp. (ASIC), which specializes in repairing Cessna airplanes.
By the end of the course, students will have the skills needed to perform basic repairs on Cessna 208 aircraft, the release said.
ASIC employs more than 70 people, and the company was awarded the Lt. Governor’s Small Business Award of Excellence in 2016.
The Autry course course was developed for entry-level sheet metal workers, to familiarize prospective mechanics with basic structural repair fundamentals.
During the training period, students will be employees of ASIC and earn a wage of $10 per hour. Classes will be from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Upon satisfactory completion, each student will be offered a full-time position as a sheet metal technician at a starting wage of $13 per hour. Following the successful completion of a 90-day probationary period, a raise to $14 per hour is possible.
All tools will be provided during training. Once training is complete, each technician will supply his or her own hand tools. Students will need to provide their own lockable tool chests.
Applicants must apply by Feb. 11, 2020. Interviews will follow to determine enrollment. Training will begin Feb. 20.
