Wendy’s fast-food restaurant is opening a new location farther east on Garriott, a company official confirmed Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019.

New construction in the 1500 block of West Garriott, on the south side next to McAlister’s, is laying the foundation for the new location of the Ohio-based fast food restaurants’ chain of 6,500. The restaurant currently is at 606 S. Garland Road at the Garland and Garriott intersection, roughly 3 miles west, just north of Walmart Supercenter.

On Wednesday, Wendy’s store manager Brandy Franklin said the new location is expected to open March 30, 2020, and while the existing Wendy’s will close, there likely will be a brief period when both are in operation.

However, a company representative said Thursday no final decisions have been made on the opening date or fate of the existing location.

“We haven’t made any decision on the other location,” said Susie Schulz, director of sales and projects for Meritage, the franchise owner. “At this time, we’re still remaining open at that location.”

Changes also are coming to the former Taco Bueno building at 1725 W. Garriott, city records show.

A request for permit to remodel the address was filed with the city in September, and Little Caesar’s is listed in the records.

The manager of Little Caesar’s, 2404 W. Garriott, could not confirm if the store would be moving. Media relations for the pizza chain did not immediately respond to request for comment.
