The public given an opportunity Thursday, June 6, 2019 to tour Harrison Court, a senior living community built in and on the property of the former Harrison Elementary School at 212 W. Birch.

The ribbon cutting and open house on Thursday, included refreshments, tours of the former school building, one of its apartments and one of the detached villas, and a chance to meet the development’s owners and managers.

WoodCo, Inc. has been working on repurposing the historic school since 2016, when the city rezoned the property for affordable senior housing. Enid Public Schools subsequently signed the property over to WoodCo.

The former school building has been converted to house 18 apartments, and 18 villas have been built around the school building to create a senior-living community, said a spokesperson for Wilhoit Properties, the community management company. The former gymnasium has been converted to a community center, with cardiac fitness facility, dining room, computer area and storm shelter with 24-hour access.

According to Wilhoit, all 18 of the villas have been leased, but apartments remain available in the Harrison school building.

All of the residences are designed for independent living. Leases are restricted to those at least 62 years old, with a sliding scale for leases based on income.

The Wilhoit spokesperson said there is an income cap to live there, with a family size of one limited to no more than $26,820 per year in income.
