A steady flow of customers spent time Tuesday choosing between a number of cupcake or ice cream options at the newly-opened Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery in Enid.

The business, owned by Nicholas and Kaylie Keen, of Stillwater, opened on Monday. Nicholas Keen grew up in Fairview.

Franchise owners, the Keens also own a Stillwater location.

“We’re looking to expand and thought that Enid would be a great location. Being from the area, I feel like staying close to home, and this would be a great area for this,” Nicholas Keen said.

The couple started working on expanding to Enid in November 2016 and had everything set up in April or May. Construction began on June 23.

“It took a little time to get started, but I’m glad it did because it all turned out really well,” Kaylie Keen said.

Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery is an international chain based out of Overland Park, Kan.

The business sells gourmet cupcakes and homemade ice cream made in the in-house creamery, Nicholas Keen said.

There are 12 daily flavors of cupcakes: chocolate cream, birthday cake, vanilla and chocolate, German chocolate, red velvet, hot fudge sundae, peanut butter cup, chocoholic, pink vanilla, pink chocolate, cookies and cream and lemon. There are more than 200 rotated special flavors.

With 20 ice cream flavors in the case at a time, there are a total of 95 flavors rotated.

“We try to keep the staple ones in there, like cookies and cream and peanut butter cup,” Nicholas Keen said. “Try being the key word because we can’t always make that happen. Sometimes they just sell too fast.”

Among the rotating flavors there are some unique creations.

Ice cream options include Fruity Pebbles, Caramel Maple Bacon Cheesecake or Hangry — a salted caramel ice cream with potato chips, waffle cones, pretzels, peanuts, M&M’s and coconut mixed into it.

Unique cupcakes include the Bacon, Beer and Cheese cupcake. There’s also a Fruity Pebbles cupcake, Krispy Rice Cream, Orange Creamsicle and the Kitchen Sink cupcake.

“It has everything but the kitchen sink in it. We’re talking cheesecake, cookie dough, coconut, chocolate chips, pecans. All sorts of things like that,” Kaylie Keen said.

Flavors are posted on the Smallcakes: A Cupcakery & Creamery, Enid, OK, page on Facebook.

There are bottled drinks available for purchase, and hot chocolate will debut in the coming weeks, the Keens said.

“This is a creamy Italian hot chocolate. It’s very thick and chocolatey,” Nicholas Keen said.

There’s also the Smallcakes Smash.

“We take your favorite cupcake, break it apart and put your favorite ice cream in the middle, so you end up with a cup layered with cake, ice cream, cake, frosting. That’s really popular,” Kaylie Keen said.

Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery, located at 4408 W. Garriott, suite D in the Land Run Town Center, is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The location can be reached at (580) 237-1161.
