A building permit has been obtained for a Casey’s General Store, city of Enid planning department officials confirmed Tuesday.

The permit, obtained by Casey’s Marketing Co. on Sept. 27, is for a $2.75 million new commercial business at 206 N. Oakwood. The location is near a Holding’s Food Store, Daylight Donuts and Security National Bank branch.

Calls made to Casey’s General Store officials Tuesday were not immediately returned.

According to the company’s website, founder Don Lamberti originally leased a store in Iowa in 1959. After nine years, it was suggested Lamberti purchase the Square Deal Oil Co. He purchased the station and it was named Casey’s. There are now nearly 2,000 Casey’s General Stores offering prepared food items and fuel.

The company is headquartered in Ankeny, Iowa.

In a September news release detailed first-quarter results, Casey’s reported diluted earnings of $1.46 per share for the first quarter of the 2018 fiscal year. That compares to $1.70 per share for the same quarter the previous year.

“Expansion activity for new store construction continues to increase as there are now 179 sites either under construction or under agreement,” said Terry Handley, president and CEO. “We are well positioned to sustain a higher level of unit growth in fiscal 2018 and beyond.”

At the end of the first quarter, Casey’s reported it had built and opened two new stores, acquired three stores, completed one replacement and remodeled 11 stores. There were 47 new stores, 27 replacement stores and 16 major remodel stores under construction. The company also had 132 sites under agreement for new store construction and 18 stores under agreement to purchase.
